Abstract

This villanelle explores the comforts and rhythms of my lifelong figure skating passion. It is enveloped in musical language, mirroring the artistic expression of figure skating that allows a skater to let go and skate in the moment. The form itself and the image of a spinning record focuses on the repetition of figure skating practice, going around and around the rink and executing elements over and over again until they are ingrained in muscle memory.
