Jrade, Vanderbilt University Professor of Spanish and Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Vanderbilt University. Earned her B.A. in Spanish, Summa cum laude, Queens College, City University of New York Degrees in 1969, her AM in Hispanic Studies from Brown University in 1971, and her PhD also from Brown University in 1974. Previous taught at Indiana University, Bloomington. She has published widely on modernismo, Modernity, Fin de Siglo, and Contemporary Latin American prose and poetry. Books include Modernismo, Modernity, and the Development of Spanish American Literature, (University of Texas Press, 1998), Rubén DarÃo y la búsqueda romántica de la unidad: El recurso modernista de la tradición esotérica, (Fondo de Cultura Económica, 1986), and Rubén DarÃo and the Romantic Search for Unity: The Modernist Recourse to Esoteric Tradition (University of Texas Press, 1983). She is currently working on Delmira Agustini: A Modernista on her own Terms.
