Author Guidelines
|
The Vanderbilt Undergraduate Research Journal is a refereed undergraduate journal featuring the work of Vanderbilt University students. Published annually, the Editor accepts submissions in two concurrent sections, Humanities & Social Sciences and Engineering & Natural Sciences, as well as short research notes. Prospective contributors are encouraged to email an abstract to the Editor for general comments and suggestions.
Abstract: 200-250 word abstract
Typeface: Times New Roman 12 pt.
Length: The suggested length for articles is 8-10 pages, single-spaced, although longer submissions that require a more extensive discussion of research findings are also encouraged. For shorter research notes, the suggested length is 3-4 pages, single-spaced.
Format: All submissions should follow the documentation guidelines of The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th Edition. We prefer citations at the end of the paper, followed by a Works Cited page. For assistance with these guidelines, authors should consult the resource page created by the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Required: Authors who submit to the Humanities & Social Sciences and Engineering & Natural Sciences sections should remove all author identification, bibliographical references to the author or research team, and any acknowledgements to facilitate the blind, peer review process.
Supplementary: Authors who submit publishable articles relying on extensive datasets, research instruments, or other informative research tools should submit those files in the appropriate format as Supplementary Files at the time of submission. If the article is accepted for publication, the author will be given the option of making any supplementary files available to interested readers.
Submission Preparation Checklist (All items required)
| • | The submission has not been previously published nor is it before another journal for consideration; or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor.
| | • | The submission file is in Microsoft Word format.
| | • | The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); with figures and tables placed within the text, rather than at the end.
| | • | The text meets this journal's formatting requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines. If the journal section is peer reviewed, author identification has been removed, and "Author" and year have been used in the bibliography and footnotes, instead of authors' names or affiliations. The author's name has been removed from the document's Properties, which can be found in Microsoft Word in the File menu.
| | • | All URL addresses in the text (e.g., http://pkp.ubc.ca) are ready to click for interested readers.
